I’ve always been fascinated by the Prologue of ROMEO AND JULIET. Today we are told to keep the suspense going, not to reveal the full story until the very last page.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life;
Whole misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents’ strife.
That’s the whole story. Yet we want to read on to find out how it happens. I’m not going to start a short story that way, but it shows again that there really are no rules of writing.
