Write for one person

Some recommend that you write for a group, let’s say middle class readers who enjoy a good mystery. No. I say write for one person only. Yes, yourself, of course, but for one other person. Maybe a best friend. “Will Jack understand what I’ve just written? If so, it’s okay.” Maybe even put a picture of that one person by your computer. “I’m writing so Carol will enjoy this.”
